Lucknow: In preparation for Swachh Survekshan 2025-26, Municipal Commissioner Gaurav Kumar chaired a high-level review meeting at the Smart City office, issuing strict instructions to improve sanitation and civic management across the city.
Senior officials, including Additional Municipal Commissioners Lalit Kumar, Pankaj Srivastava, Arun Kumar Gupta, Dr. Arvind Kumar Rao, and Deputy Municipal Commissioner Rashmi Bharti, along with other Nagar Nigam officials, were present during the meeting.
Focus on Cleanliness and Swift Grievance Redressal
The Municipal Commissioner directed all zonal officers and sanitary officials to ensure there is no negligence in cleanliness operations. He emphasized that all citizen complaints must be resolved on the same day.
Additionally, instructions were issued to develop zebra crossings in commercial areas to streamline traffic movement and enhance urban management.
Public Toilets and Urinals Under Scanner
Special attention was given to improving the condition of public toilets and urinals. The Commissioner set a deadline for completing work on 86 public toilets in the first phase.
Issuing a stern warning, he stated that salaries of concerned officials—including zonal officers, sanitary officers, and executive engineers—will be withheld if facilities are found unsatisfactory. A one-week deadline has been set for improving urinals across the city.

Drive Against Illegal Hoardings
To maintain the city’s aesthetics, officials were directed to launch a campaign to remove illegal hoardings, posters, and banners. The Commissioner stressed that this task should be carried out on a priority basis.
Strengthening Waste Management and Drain Cleaning
The Commissioner instructed that garbage collection vehicles must be deployed in the field from 6 AM to ensure timely waste collection. He also directed the Chief Engineers to carry out regular cleaning of drains to prevent waterlogging during upcoming seasons.
Boosting Public Awareness
Highlighting the importance of citizen participation, the Commissioner called for intensified IEC (Information, Education, and Communication) campaigns to spread awareness about cleanliness and hygiene.
Team Effort for Better Ranking
Concluding the meeting, the Municipal Commissioner urged all officials to work with a team spirit and adhere to timelines to ensure improved performance in the upcoming Swachh Survekshan rankings.
The initiative reflects the city administration’s commitment to enhancing urban cleanliness, infrastructure, and public participation ahead of the national survey.
