Over 62,000 Rooftop Solar Systems Installed Under PMSGY; Uttar Pradesh Crosses the 3-Lakh Mark
Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh’s capital has scripted a remarkable achievement in the field of renewable energy. Under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s leadership, Lucknow has completed 62,271 rooftop solar (RTS) installations under the Pradhan Mantri Suryaghar Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSGY) — the highest among all districts in the state.
This milestone has played a crucial role in helping Uttar Pradesh cross 3 lakh rooftop solar installations, placing the state among India’s leading solar-powered regions.
Lucknow Leads from the Front
With coordinated efforts by the district administration, UPNEDA and DISCOM teams, Lucknow swiftly moved to the top spot by completing 62,271 installations. The achievement has set a benchmark for other districts and has significantly accelerated the state’s transition toward clean and affordable energy.
Other Key Districts Show Strong Performance
Following Lucknow, several major districts have also contributed impressively to the solar push:
-
Varanasi: 26,208 installations
-
Kanpur Nagar: 18,562

-
Bareilly: 12,952
-
Agra: 11,033
Additionally, districts like Prayagraj (9,719), Rae Bareli (8,616), Jhansi (7,674), Barabanki (6,477) and Gorakhpur (6,262) strengthened the momentum. The appointment of Project Officers in all 75 districts and doubling the installation rate in 23 districts enabled inclusive and rapid progress.
Record-Breaking Speed: 50,000 Installations in Just 43 Days
The Yogi government has dramatically increased installation efficiency across the state. While the first 2.5 lakh installations took 270 days, the latest 50,000 installations were completed in only 43 days, marking a six-fold rise in speed.
This rapid expansion is providing lakhs of families with free electricity, reduced bills and opportunities for additional income through surplus energy generation.
With Uttar Pradesh now ranked among the top three solar energy states in India, Lucknow’s leadership in rooftop solar marks a major step towards CM Yogi’s green development vision and the state’s commitment to clean, sustainable energy growth.
