Lucknow – In a tragic incident in Dhanuwasadh village, a Class 6 student, Yash, allegedly took his own life after losing Rs 13 lakh in online gaming. The Mohanlalganj police investigation has revealed alarming details about the child’s gaming addiction and cyber fraud involved in the case.
Initial inquiries show that Yash had been addicted to online games for nearly a year. Cybercriminals initially allowed him to win Rs 30,000–Rs 40,000 to lure him into playing more. Gradually, motivated by the promise of larger winnings, he was encouraged to stake bigger sums, eventually losing nearly Rs 13 lakh.

ACPI Rajnish Verma of Mohanlalganj confirmed that Yash’s mobile phone has been seized and sent to a mobile forensic lab for data recovery. “A significant portion of data had been deleted, but once recovered, it could reveal more facts about the incident,” he said. The postmortem report confirmed that the cause of death was hanging.
Yash’s body was brought home Tuesday afternoon after the postmortem, drawing relatives and villagers. His mother fainted on seeing him, and neighbors and family had to console her. Both parents were inconsolable after losing their only son, leaving the entire village mourning the tragedy.

School authorities also visited Yash’s home following the news. Classes were canceled for the day, and teachers expressed shock, recalling Yash as a diligent student who always completed his work on time. Friends and coaching instructors expressed their disbelief, emphasizing that they had no idea Yash was falling into the trap of online gaming.
The incident has raised serious concerns among villagers, as several local children are reportedly addicted to online games. ACPI Verma stated that awareness campaigns will be conducted in the village and schools to educate children and youth on the dangers of online gaming and guide them on how to avoid such traps.
