Lucknow: It is a matter of immense pride for the University of Lucknow that Professor Sarajit Sensarma, from the Department of Geology, has been invited to serve as a Convenor at the 37th International Geological Congress (IGC), set to take place in Busan, Republic of Korea, from August 25 to 31, 2024.
Professor Sensarma, a distinguished figure in the field of geology, will be the lead-convener and will chair a scientific session on “Crust-Mantle Interactions Through Time and the Role of Fluids” on August 27, 2024, from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM. He will also present a talk, which the IGC 2024 organizers believe will add significant value to the congress’s program.
In his letter of invitation, Professor Daekyo Cheong, Chairman of the IGC 2024 Organizing Committee, expressed his confidence in Professor Sensarma’s expertise and insights, noting that they will greatly contribute to the discussions and foster a dynamic environment for impactful academic exchanges and advancements in geosciences. Professor Cheong emphasized that his invitation is a personal call for Professor Sensarma’s participation in what is affectionately known as the “Olympic Games of Geoscience.”
The International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS), representing over a million geoscientists, is one of the world’s largest scientific organizations. It promotes international cooperation and participation in Earth sciences, particularly in relation to human welfare, and is a member of the International Science Council (ISC). The IGC provides a platform for sharing research findings, sparking new collaborations, and discussing innovative trends in geoscience.
