LU Anthropology Department Hosts Prestigious Three-Day Joint Annual Conference on “Secondary Urbanization”

Lucknow :The Department of Anthropology at Lucknow University, in collaboration with the Indian Archaeological Society (IAS), the Indian Society for Prehistoric and Quaternary Studies (ISPQS), and the Human Ecology Society (HCS), recently hosted a prestigious three-day joint annual conference. Sponsored by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), the conference focused on the theme of “Secondary Urbanization.”

On the third day, technical sessions were held simultaneously across three key university venues: A.P. Sen Hall, K.P. Vimal Auditorium (Geology Department), and the Conference Hall of the Urdu Department.

The opening session at A.P. Sen Hall commenced with a welcome address by Prof. U.P. Singh, Head of the Anthropology Department, who greeted scholars and experts from across the country.

Conference Highlights

A total of 37 research papers were presented across the three venues. Eighteen papers were showcased at A.P. Sen Hall, twelve in the K.P. Vimal Auditorium, and seven in the Urdu Department Conference Hall. The presentations spanned a wide range of topics, including archaeological exploration, potential studies of unused sites, challenges of neglect and vandalism of ancient materials, studies on ancient weaponry and warrior culture, numismatics (coins), inscriptions, and the role of environment in the development of early urban centers.
