Kanpur: A chilling crime reminiscent of a thriller film has come to light from Kanpur, where a woman was allegedly murdered by her lover and her body buried underground to conceal the crime. The shocking truth surfaced nearly eight months later, leading to the arrest of the accused and his brother.
The incident pertains to Tikwanpur village under the Sateji police station area. The victim, Reshma, was the mother of seven children. Her husband, Rambabu Shankhwar, had died of cancer five years ago. Following his death, Reshma reportedly left her children and began living with her neighbour, Goralal Shankhwar.

According to police investigations, Reshma and Goralal went to Etawah in April for wheat harvesting work. After returning, Reshma was never seen again. Months later, on November 29, during a wedding ceremony, Reshma’s son Bablu questioned Goralal about his mother’s whereabouts. Goralal allegedly replied that she would never return.
Suspecting foul play, Bablu approached the ACP on January 5, narrating the entire incident and seeking justice. Acting on the complaint, police detained Goralal for questioning. Initially, the accused tried to mislead investigators, but during sustained interrogation, he confessed to murdering Reshma and burying her body in a three-foot-deep pit.

During interrogation, Goralal claimed that Reshma was 12 years older than him and had allegedly developed relationships with another man. He also cited her seven children as a reason for wanting to end the relationship. To “free himself,” he allegedly killed her and buried the body.
The confession left police officials stunned. On the accused’s identification, the police recovered Reshma’s skeletal remains from the burial site. ACP Krishnakant Yadav confirmed that Goralal has been sent to jail, and further legal proceedings are underway.
Villagers stated that frequent disputes had occurred earlier, as Reshma was adamant about living with her lover despite leaving her children behind. Police are continuing the investigation to ascertain the full sequence of events and the role of the accused’s brother in the crime.
