Legislative Assembly: A Sacred Temple of Democracy – CM Yogi

Lucknow – A historic moment unfolded in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly when Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated the renovated viewing gallery. On this occasion, the Chief Minister dedicated the gallery to all the assembly members and the 25 crore people of the state, stating that the Legislative Assembly is the sacred temple of democracy, where every citizen experiences the power of democracy. He remarked, “This viewing gallery is not only a moment of pride for the ruling party but also for the opposition, as it has been made possible with the consent of all.”

The Chief Minister also praised Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana for his leadership, stating that under his guidance, the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly has evolved not only as a pillar of democracy but also as a model of modernity. He lauded the successful implementation of the e-Vidhan system, which has made the Assembly paperless. “The Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly is now paperless, which is not only a proud moment for the Assembly but also for our 25 crore citizens,” CM Yogi stated.

Amendments to Rules and Strengthening Democracy

The Chief Minister also highlighted the amendments made to the Assembly’s operational rules, which were first introduced in 1952. He explained that now, a legislator can ask up to 20 questions and receive immediate answers, which is a true reflection of a strong democracy. Additionally, the decision to allocate special discussion time for female members has been implemented, reflecting the inclusive nature of democracy.

The Importance of the Legislature and Unveiling the Original Constitution

CM Yogi emphasized the crucial role of the legislature in democracy, stating, “The two wheels of democracy are the ruling and opposition parties. When both work together, a strong democracy is born.” He also mentioned the new publication released by the Legislative Assembly, which highlights the roles and contributions of every Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition since 1952.

On this occasion, the Chief Minister received the original copies of the Indian Constitution from Speaker Satish Mahana and urged all members to read them. “Each page of the Constitution represents India’s spirit. I encourage all the members to read the original document as it reflects the vision of India,” said the Chief Minister.

A Golden Memory: The Beautification of the Viewing Gallery

Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana discussed the beautification of the viewing gallery and explained that this initiative, under the guidance of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, aimed to make the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly a global attraction. He mentioned that the walls of the viewing gallery now feature artworks depicting the original pages of the Indian Constitution, emphasizing its significance. “When delegations from around the world visit parliamentary and assembly buildings, the Uttar Pradesh Assembly should be such that people from all over the world are drawn to see it,” Speaker Mahana stated.

Chief Minister Unveils Two Books on Assembly History

During the event, CM Yogi also unveiled two books published by the Legislative Assembly, providing comprehensive details about the Chief Ministers and Leaders of the Opposition from the time of India’s independence to the present. These books highlight the historical journey of the Assembly and its role in shaping democracy in the state.

The ceremony was attended by Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana, Deputy Chief Ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya, Brajesh Pathak, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Khanna, and Leader of Opposition Mata Prasad Pandey, among other distinguished guests.
