Lucknow: The much-anticipated Vihang Utsav, organized by the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA), commenced at the CG City Wetland with a bird-watching session. The event saw the participation of hundreds of Lucknowites, including Divisional Commissioner Dr. Roshan Jacob and LDA Vice Chairman Prathamesh Kumar, who joined attendees in spotting and observing various bird species through binoculars.
Following the bird-watching session, the focus shifted to environmental awareness with a workshop and talk show on environmental conservation. Esteemed speakers, including Prof. Venkatesh Dutta from Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University and environmentalist Vivek Awasthi, provided insights into the critical role of wetlands and other ecological aspects. An interactive session with children saw participants answering questions about birds and the environment, with winners receiving attractive gifts to encourage their enthusiasm.
Painting Competition Draws Talented Young Artists
A painting competition on the theme of environmental conservation brought together 126 children from various schools, showcasing their creativity with remarkable artwork. The judging panel selected four outstanding paintings. The winners were:
- First Prize: Bhuvik Seth from Seth Anandram Jaipuria School
- Second Prize: Priyanshi Rawat from New Public College, Neelmatha
- Third Prize: Shubham Kumar from Bal Nikunj (Boys’ Wing)
- Consolation Prize: Deepika Sharma from Bal Nikunj (Girls’ Wing)
The awards were presented by Principal Secretary of Housing and Urban Planning P. Guruprasad, along with special guests, Divisional Commissioner Dr. Roshan Jacob, District Magistrate Suryapal Gangwar, and LDA Vice Chairman Prathamesh Kumar.
Photography Contest Recognizes Talent
Participants of the photography competition, which began on November 26, were also honored during the event. Winners included:

- Third Prize: Sunil Kumar Raidas
- Consolation Prizes: Vivek Awasthi and Ashutosh Tripathi
Musical Evening Enthralls Audience
The day’s festivities concluded with a mesmerizing classical music performance by the Tal Yatra Band. Songs like “Paksi Sur Mein Gaate Hain, Bhanware Gunagunate Hain” celebrated the theme of nature, leaving the audience spellbound. Performances of Raag Jog, Raag Kirwani, Raag Pahadi, Dadra, and Sufi music further enchanted the crowd, highlighting the harmony between nature and art.
The Vihang Utsav continued with several activities aimed at promoting environmental awareness and appreciation for nature. Events such as nukkad nataks (street plays), quiz contests, painting and photography exhibitions, and classical music performances promise an engaging experience for participants and visitors alike.
The grand event underscores the LDA’s commitment to environmental conservation and creating awareness among children and youth about the importance of preserving nature.
