Lucknow: Isabella Thoburn College celebrated its annual College Day on 19th November, 2024 by staging an English play, The Imaginary Invalid. On this occasion, the Chief Guest Dr. Ammar Rizvi, former Acting Chief Minister, Uttar Pradesh, and Chief Patron Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam and the accomplished politician Anil Kumar Singh were accorded a warm welcome by the College President Dr. E.S. Charles.
The programme commenced with the invocation by the college choir followed by the presentation of the annual report by the Acting Principal Prof. Panzy Singh, in which she highlighted the achievements of the students and faculty in various fields, especially in academic and extra-curricular activities.
Under which all the activities like college retreat, orientation, etc. were introduced. After this, while addressing the august gathering, the chief guest Dr. Ammar Rizvi said that in the field of women education, the missionary Isabella Thoburn has set an example for the purpose for which she established the IT College.
Today, the achievements of the college are becoming an example for everyone. I wish that this college gets the status of a university soon.
The main attraction of the evening was the English play presented by the students of the college under the direction of Dr. Shirley Jain. The play, The Imaginary Invalid, by the famous French playwright, Moliere, is a satire on the medical profession and a comedy-ballet, or comedy combined with song and dance.
This play has a good portion of farce and was written to please King Louis. It is also a brilliant character study of a hypochondriac, or a patient obsessed with being sick, and contains a brilliant social and political commentary on Paris of the 1670s.
The audience thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated the performance, the auditorium reverberated with laughter and applause. The vote of thanks was proposed by the College President Dr. (Mrs.) E.S. Charles. The programme concluded with the singing of the National Anthem.
