Lalitpur Municipal Council Wins National e-Governance Award 2025 for Smart Waste Management

Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh | The Lalitpur Municipal Council, Uttar Pradesh, has been conferred with the prestigious National e-Governance Award 2025 (Jury Category) for its innovative project on sustainable development through smart waste management.

The award was presented by Union Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions Dr. Jitendra Singh at a special ceremony organized in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, under the aegis of the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG), Government of India.

The initiative, titled “Swachh Bhavishya, Lalitpur” (Clean Future, Lalitpur), was recognized for its replicable model of smart waste management that emphasizes sustainability, community participation, and technology-driven solutions.

 Key Officials Behind the Project

The project was implemented under the leadership of then District Magistrate of Lalitpur, IAS Akshay Tripathi, who currently serves as the Collector of Bahraich, and Additional District Magistrate (Finance & Revenue) PCS Ankur Srivastava. Their coordinated efforts with the municipal council enabled the district to emerge as a pioneer in eco-friendly waste management practices.

National Recognition for Replicable Models

The Lalitpur Municipal Council’s achievement stands alongside other successful national-level projects awarded under categories such as the Prime Minister’s Awards for Excellence in Public Administration and awards from various central ministries. The recognition reflects the growing importance of innovative local governance models in addressing India’s urban challenges.

Towards a Cleaner, Smarter Future

By integrating smart technology with sustainable practices, Lalitpur has set a benchmark for other districts across India. The award highlights Uttar Pradesh’s commitment to sustainable urban development and strengthens the state’s standing in India’s e-governance landscape.

Officials expressed optimism that the model will be replicated across other municipalities to ensure cleaner cities and greener futures in line with the government’s vision of sustainable development by 2047.
