Lucknow: In a patient-friendly move aimed at reducing waiting times and improving access to specialised care, the Pediatric Surgery Department of King George’s Medical University (KGMU) has expanded its Outpatient Department (OPD) services from three to four days a week. The decision comes in response to the steadily rising number of young patients visiting the department.
The additional OPD began operating on December 2, with Tuesday added to the existing schedule of Monday, Wednesday and Friday. All OPD services will continue to run from Room No. 422, as before.
Announcing the initiative, Department Head Prof. J.D. Rawat said the growing patient load had been causing delays in consultations and treatment. “To ensure timely medical care, we have introduced an extra OPD day on Tuesday. This will help patients receive quicker diagnosis, reduce waiting time for surgeries, and ease overall pressure on the department,” he said.
Prof. Rawat and Prof. Anand Pandey will serve as in-charge for the newly added Tuesday OPD. The department has encouraged all patients to make use of the expanded service for their child’s timely treatment.

KGMU Vice-Chancellor extended best wishes to the team for the smooth functioning and success of the new OPD schedule, calling it a commendable step toward enhancing pediatric surgical care in the region.
With this expansion, the Pediatric Surgery Department aims to provide faster, more efficient, and more accessible treatment to children requiring specialised surgical attention.
