150 Students Explore Medicinal & Aromatic Plant Research and Advanced Agricultural Technologies
Lucknow: Under the CSIR Jigyasa academic exposure initiative, a group of 150 students, along with five faculty members from Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV), Shivgarh, Raebareli, UP visited CSIR–Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (CSIR-CIMAP), Lucknow, on 17 February 2026. The visit was organized to provide students with scientific orientation and hands-on exposure to medicinal and aromatic plant research, advanced agricultural technologies, and innovation-driven farming practices.
The programme commenced with an introductory session outlining CSIR-CIMAP’s mandate, research priorities, and national contributions. Dr. Rushikesh Bhise elaborated on the institute’s major research activities, outreach initiatives, farmer-centric programmes, and technological advancements. The CSIR Jigyasa initiative and student engagement programmes were presented by Dr. Bhaskar Shukla, who emphasized the importance of nurturing scientific temperament among school students.
During the exposure visit, students toured several key facilities, including the Tissue Culture Laboratory, BCF Unit, Distillation Unit, Demonstration Plots, MANAV Park, and Vermicomposting Unit. Scientists and technical staff explained the scientific processes involved in plant propagation, essential oil extraction, sustainable agricultural practices, and organic waste management.

A special live demonstration of drone technology in agriculture was also organized by the CSIR-CIMAP team. The session highlighted the role of precision agriculture, crop monitoring, and technology-driven farm management systems in modern farming.
Overall, the visit proved to be highly informative and inspiring. It fostered curiosity, enhanced scientific awareness, and encouraged students’ interest in plant-based research and agricultural innovation.
