Kanpur: In the 38th National Games held in Uttarakhand, the Uttar Pradesh handball team delivered an outstanding performance, securing the bronze medal. A key contributor to this historic victory was Gurdeep Khatri, a player from the Kanpur division, who currently serves with the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). His exceptional skills and leadership played a pivotal role in Uttar Pradesh’s triumph.
The Uttar Pradesh team began their campaign with remarkable success in the pool stages, defeating Andhra Pradesh and Goa. These victories ensured their place in the semifinals, where they faced the Services team. Despite a fierce battle, Uttar Pradesh lost the match 20-15. However, they made a strong comeback in the hard-fought third-place playoff, defeating Rajasthan 20-14 to claim the coveted bronze medal.
