Kalagram Cultural Hub to Shine at Mahakumbh in Prayagraj

Prayagraj: Authorities are setting up a vibrant cultural hub named Kalagram at Daraganj, Prayagraj, along the banks of the Ganga, for the upcoming Mahakumbh in 2025. Spanning over 10 acres, Kalagram will feature designated areas for seven Zonal Cultural Centers (ZCCs), each representing different states and union territories of India. These ZCCs will showcase diverse cultural exhibits, crafts, and performances.

The Ministry of Culture plans to display artwork from all member states and UTs in special “aangans” (courtyards). These will feature exhibitions centered around the Kumbh theme, offering immersive experiences, food courts, and activity zones. The environment of Kalagram will be created by an experienced private company working alongside ZCC artists and the Lalit Kala Akademi.

The participating ZCCs will represent states such as Patiala (Punjab), Nagpur (Maharashtra), Udaipur (Rajasthan), Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh), Kolkata (West Bengal), Dimapur (Nagaland), and Thanjavur (Tamil Nadu). The site will also include a range of art installations covering commercial, educational, and cultural themes to engage visitors.

In addition, Union Tourism Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat announced that the Mahakumbh will feature a grand cultural spectacular starting in January 2025, celebrating the vibrant cultures, arts, and crafts of India’s states. The event will be hosted in a prime location near the main Mahakumbh Mela site, ensuring accessibility for a larger audience.

Other attractions in Kalagram will include a Ganga Pandal with seating for 10,000 spectators, where daily celebrity performances will be held. Smaller pandals in Jhunsi, Nagvasuki, and Areil will also be built, with seating for 4,000 people each. An amphitheater with 1,000 seats will feature performances from ZCC ensembles, the National School of Drama, and awardees from the Sangeet Natak Akademi.

To further enhance the Mahakumbh experience, Indian Railways is introducing the Gram Tent City project, offering pilgrims a blend of spirituality and modern amenities. This initiative aims to provide a seamless and unforgettable experience for millions of visitors expected at the Mahakumbh from January 14 to February 2025.
