The event was attended by Union Civil Aviation Minister and senior state government officials, who celebrated the achievement with pride and enthusiasm.
Water Cannon Salute for Indigo’s A320 Aircraft
An Indigo A320 aircraft became the first to land on the newly constructed runway at 1:31 PM. Before the touchdown, the runway was ceremoniously saluted with a water cannon, adding to the grandeur of the occasion.
The aircraft, which departed from Delhi, spent 10 minutes in flight before entering the Noida Airport’s airspace. It hovered above the airport for over an hour to conduct final checks on equipment and facilities, ensuring readiness for operations.
State-of-the-Art Facilities Ensuring All-Weather Operations
The 3,900-meter-long and 60-meter-wide runway is now fully equipped with advanced systems, including CAT-1 and CAT-3 equipment, which provide critical information about aircraft height and visibility during adverse weather conditions like fog. The Instrument Landing System (ILS) has also been tested to ensure smooth landings even in dense fog and low visibility.
The airport’s first phase, constructed over 1,334 hectares, is designed to handle 12 million passengers annually. Upon completion of all four phases by 2050, the airport will accommodate up to 70 million passengers per year.
Key Milestones Achieved
The successful landing adds to the airport’s list of accomplishments:
- October 10-14: ILS calibration testing completed.
- December 9: Runway trial run conducted.
- DGCA Approvals: Received flight trial permissions.
- Aerodrome License: Application to be filed this month.
- Upcoming Dates:
- February 6, 2025: Aeronautical Information Publication (AIP).
- April 17, 2025: Commercial flights commence.
A Game-Changer for the Region
The airport is poised to transform connectivity and trade in the Delhi-NCR region. With world-class facilities and a phased expansion plan, Noida International Airport aims to become a hub for both passenger and cargo operations, boosting the local and national economy.
This historic moment symbolizes the culmination of over two decades of effort and planning, as the airport takes a giant leap toward becoming a cornerstone of India’s aviation infrastructure.
