Isabella Thoburn College Celebrates Founder’s Day, Honors Distinguished Alumni

LUCKNOW – Isabella Thoburn College commemorated its Founder’s Day, honoring the vision and legacy of its founder, Isabella Thoburn. The ceremony, held under the patronage of College President Dr. E. S. Charles, paid tribute to  Thoburn and celebrated the institution’s rich history.

The day’s events began with a solemn tribute at the Nishatganj Cemetery, where floral tributes were offered to the founder and other departed souls. Later, in the college auditorium, the college choir performed Thoburn’s beloved hymn, “Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing.” The ceremony also featured a play based on the life of the founder, highlighting her dedication to women’s education.

The prestigious event was attended by Acting Principal Dr. Anjana Joseph, faculty members, esteemed guests, and prominent alumni. As part of the celebration, four distinguished former students were honored for their significant achievements in their respective fields:

  • Prof. Nishi Pandey, Professor and Head of the Department of English and MEL, Lucknow University.
  • Prof. Poonam Kakkar, an internationally recognized scientist at CSIR-IITR.
  • Prof. Sonika Bhatia, Professor in the Department of Chemistry, IT College.
  • Poonam Tiwari, Chief Dietician at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital.

The honored alumnae shared their experiences with great enthusiasm, expressing gratitude for the college’s role in their personal and professional growth. They encouraged the current students to embody the college’s motto, “We Receive to Give,” and to internalize the values the institution provides for their holistic development. Following tradition, the guests were served ‘Imli Pana’ (Tamarind drink), a customary part of the college’s Founder’s Day celebrations.
