IPL 2026: Royal Challengers Bengaluru Clinch First Win as Virat Kohli Anchors Chase Against Sunrisers Hyderabad

Royal Challengers Bengaluru registered their first win of the Indian Premier League 2026 season with a convincing six-wicket victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad, successfully chasing down a challenging 202-run target with more than four overs to spare.

SRH Recover Strongly After Early Setback

After being reduced to 29/3 in the Powerplay, Sunrisers Hyderabad staged an impressive recovery led by Ishan Kishan and Heinrich Klaasen. The duo added a crucial 97-run partnership to revive the innings.

Kishan was the standout performer, smashing a quickfire 80 off 38 balls, while Klaasen provided solid support to stabilise the innings during the middle overs.

Late Surge Takes SRH Past 200

A blistering finish from Aniket Verma propelled SRH to a competitive 201/9. His aggressive strokeplay in the death overs ensured the team crossed the 200-run mark, capitalising on a batting-friendly surface.

For Bengaluru, debutant Jacob Duffy impressed with the ball, picking up 3/22, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Romario Shepherd contributed with key breakthroughs.

Kohli, Padikkal Steer Confident Chase

In reply, RCB began aggressively despite losing Phil Salt early. Devdutt Padikkal and Virat Kohli then took control with a match-defining 101-run partnership.

Padikkal played a fluent knock of 61 off just 26 balls, counterattacking the SRH bowlers with intent. Kohli, meanwhile, anchored the innings with composure, rotating strike efficiently before accelerating when needed.

RCB raced to 76/1 in the Powerplay and crossed the 100-run mark inside nine overs, keeping the required run rate firmly in check.

Middle-Order Firepower Seals the Game

Rajat Patidar added further impetus with a quick 31 off 12 deliveries, striking crucial boundaries to maintain momentum. Although SRH attempted a brief comeback through David Payne, who picked up two quick wickets, the effort came too late.

A dropped chance by Klaasen earlier in the innings also proved costly, allowing Kohli to continue his match-winning knock.

Clinical Finish by RCB

Virat Kohli remained unbeaten on 69 off 38 balls, guiding the chase with authority as RCB sealed victory with 26 balls to spare.

The win marks a strong turnaround for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, highlighting their batting depth and composure under pressure, while Sunrisers Hyderabad will reflect on missed opportunities despite a spirited batting recovery.
