Ahmedabad: In a commanding performance that thrilled cricket fans, India delivered a resounding victory over New Zealand, overwhelming the Kiwis with an aggressive batting display and disciplined bowling. From the very start, the contest tilted heavily in India’s favour, as the hosts asserted their dominance and left the visitors struggling to keep pace.
The tone of the match was set early by Abhishek Sharma, who, despite questions about his recent form, unleashed a fierce assault on the New Zealand pace attack. His fearless stroke play put the bowlers under immediate pressure and provided India with the momentum they needed in the powerplay overs.
Many observers felt New Zealand made a tactical error by delaying the introduction of spin during the early stages, allowing the Indian batters to settle and attack freely.
Sanju Samson, who has been in excellent form recently, looked poised for another substantial innings. Though he played a valuable role, it was unfortunate that he fell short of registering a century in the tournament. His contribution, however, ensured that India maintained a strong platform.
The momentum only intensified with the arrival of Ishan Kishan. The left-hander, in superb touch, launched a ferocious counterattack, dispatching the Kiwi bowlers to all parts of the ground. Alongside Sai Sudharsan, India’s batting lineup continued the onslaught, clearing the ropes with ease and effectively sealing the fate of the match.
Few had expected such a massive total on the Narendra Modi Stadium pitch in Ahmedabad. While the surface offered assistance to batters, it was not widely considered as high-scoring as the one at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. A total slightly above 200 appeared competitive, but India’s top order—often described as the “three musketeers”—blew past expectations with an explosive first ten overs that left the opposition stunned.

Chasing a daunting target, New Zealand never truly looked in control. The required run rate soared above 12 runs per over, piling immense pressure on the batting lineup.
Adding to the visitors’ woes was the brilliance of Jasprit Bumrah. The Indian pace spearhead once again demonstrated why he is regarded as one of the finest bowlers in world cricket today. His sharp deliveries and relentless accuracy dismantled the Kiwi resistance and ensured that the chase never gathered momentum.
Team selection also became a point of discussion after the match. Head coach Gautam Gambhir chose to stick with the winning combination rather than making changes. Some critics felt players like Kuldeep Yadav and Mohammed Siraj could have been considered in place of Varun Chakravarthy and Arshdeep Singh respectively. Nevertheless, the decision ultimately paid off as India secured a convincing victory.
In the end, the match showcased India’s batting firepower and bowling depth in equal measure. For New Zealand, it was a difficult outing, while for India it was another emphatic reminder of their formidable strength in modern cricket.
