Indian Navy Showcases Maritime Heritage at New Delhi World Book Fair 2026

New Delhi: The Indian Navy is participating in the New Delhi World Book Fair 2026, a nine-day cultural and literary extravaganza organised by the National Book Trust (NBT) under the Ministry of Education. The fair was inaugurated by Hon’ble Minister of Education, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan.

At the event, the Naval History Division (NHD), the Navy’s premier research institution, has set up dedicated stalls at Hall No. 5, offering visitors a deep dive into India’s maritime legacy. Displays include seven volumes of the official history of the Indian Navy (1945–2021), histories of naval ships, submarines, air squadrons, and establishments, along with books on India’s broader maritime history. Meticulously crafted scale ship models complement the publications, providing a vivid visual narrative of the Navy’s evolution, traditions, and operational excellence.

As part of its academic outreach, NHD conducted a panel discussion on January 10, 2026, focusing on the 1971 War, moderated by Cdr Neeraj Vashisth, with panellists Cdr Vijai Prakash Kapil, VrC, NM (Retd), and defence journalist Sandeep Unnithan. Further discussions are scheduled, including “Naval Maritime Expeditions: Past and Present” on January 11, and “Creating Rule-Based Order: The Role of the Indian Navy” on January 14, featuring senior naval officers and scholars.

A highlight of the fair will be the launch of a new book on the Indian Navy, prepared by NHD, which will be unveiled by the Chief of the Naval Staff at a special ceremony.

Beyond exhibitions and panels, the Navy is engaging with young visitors, inspiring them to consider careers in the service. The Indian Navy invites all attendees to explore its stalls and learn more about India’s rich maritime heritage.
