“India Should Back Nitish Reddy and Avoid Chopping and Changing”: Anil Kumble

Mumbai: Veteran spinner and JioHotstar expert Anil Kumble offered sharp insights after Day 1 of the third India vs England Test, praising India’s disciplined bowling and calling for faith in young all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy.

Speaking on Match Centre Live, Anil Kumble said, “It was clear from the outset that this was a tough wicket to bat on. The Indian bowlers were impressive with their control and accuracy, which helped keep England to 251/4. That said, India will feel they missed a chance to grab a couple more wickets, especially after Jadeja broke through but didn’t continue from the same end against Stokes.”

On Nitish Reddy, Kumble was emphatic: “I was really impressed with his control. His spell — nearly 14 overs — showed fitness, consistency, and patience. The delivery to Crawley was excellent, and while he’s still developing, India needs to show faith. He scored a hundred in Australia, can break partnerships, and gives the quicks rest. India must back him long-term and resist chopping and changing.”

Kumble also acknowledged standout moments from Jasprit Bumrah and Dhruv Jurel, and laid out India’s aim for Day 2: “Keep England under 300. A couple of early wickets tomorrow with the new ball will tilt momentum our way.”
