India Marks 150 Years of ‘Vande Mataram’ with Nationwide Cultural Celebrations

New Delhi | India is commemorating the 150th anniversary of its National Song, Vande Mataram, with a series of mass singing programmes, cultural events, and military band performances held at prominent public locations across the country. The nationwide initiative aims to strengthen the spirit of national unity and instil pride in India’s cultural and patriotic heritage.

As part of the celebrations, the Indian Air Force (IAF) Band delivered a stirring performance at the amphitheatre in Rajiv Chowk, New Delhi, on January 21. The 45-minute musical presentation featured 31 accomplished musicians and showcased a seamless blend of brass, reed, string, and electronic instruments across eleven carefully curated compositions.

The renditions of Vande Mataram drew special appreciation from the audience, along with the powerful performance of Sindoor—a composition created to honour the courage and actions of the Indian Armed Forces during Operation Sindoor. These performances highlighted both patriotic fervour and musical excellence.

Music has long held a revered place in India’s cultural legacy and has also been deeply woven into the country’s military traditions, serving as a source of inspiration, unity, and courage. Established in 1944, the Indian Air Force Band has played a significant role in this legacy, presenting a diverse repertoire that includes Indian classical, contemporary, and Western compositions.

Through its performances, the IAF Band continues to promote patriotism and reinforce the message of national integration, making the 150-year celebration of Vande Mataram a resonant reminder of India’s enduring cultural and military heritage.
