New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced India’s 15-member squad for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. The World Cup will be held in West Indies and USA from June 1. Rohit Sharma will captain India in this tournament, while Hardik Pandya will be the vice-captain. India has included two wicketkeepers in its team including Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson.
Chahal got a chance for the first time
Star batsman Virat Kohli, who is scoring runs in the current IPL 2024, has also been included in the team. Pant is set to make a comeback to Team India almost 16 months after the car accident on the Delhi-Dehradun highway in Uttarakhand.
India has selected four spinners Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal in its team. Chahal has been selected in the team for the T20 World Cup for the first time.
India will go into this tournament with a strong fast bowling attack led by Jasprit Bumrah, which also includes Arshdeep Singh and Mohammed Siraj. Samson has got a place in the 15-member team, while the selectors have ignored wicketkeeper batsman KL Rahul. Shubhman Gill, Rinku Singh, Khalil Ahmed and Avesh Khan have been kept among the reserve players.
India will begin their World Cup campaign on 5 June 2024 against Ireland at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, New York, followed by a match against Pakistan at the same venue on 9 June 2024. After this, India will play America and Canada on June 12 and 15 respectively. India have been placed in Group A of the tournament along with arch-rivals Pakistan, Ireland, Canada and co-hosts USA.
