India Emerging as Global Leader in Electronics and IT Sector: Nand Gopal Gupta ‘Nandi’

Greater Noida: Emphasizing India’s growing dominance in the technology landscape, Uttar Pradesh Industrial Development Minister Nand Gopal Gupta Nandi said that the country is now playing a leadership role in the electronics and IT sector, moving beyond being a follower under the leadership of Narendra Modi.

He was addressing the inauguration of the three-day Electronica and Productronica India 2026 at the India Expo Mart on Wednesday. The event was jointly inaugurated by Union Minister of State for Electronics and IT Jitin Prasada, Uttar Pradesh Finance Minister Suresh Khanna, along with other dignitaries.

During the event, a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Electronics Sector Skills Council of India and the Government of Uttar Pradesh to boost skill development, training, and employment opportunities in the electronics sector across the state.

Highlighting Uttar Pradesh’s rapid technological growth, Nandi stated that under the leadership of Yogi Adityanath, the state has emerged as the sixth-largest IT ecosystem in the country. He noted that exports have doubled over the past nine years, with Uttar Pradesh playing a leading role in semiconductor and mobile manufacturing.

The minister further announced that Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) IT parks are already operational in cities such as Noida, Meerut, Lucknow, Kanpur, Agra and Prayagraj. Additionally, new parks are being developed in Varanasi, Bareilly, Panki (Kanpur), and Gorakhpur.

He also highlighted key initiatives such as the proposed ‘AI City’ in Lucknow and the ‘AI Pragya Yojana’, aimed at training 10 lakh youth in emerging technologies including artificial intelligence, machine learning, data analytics, and cybersecurity.

Other prominent attendees included Uttar Pradesh IT and Electronics Minister Sunil Kumar Sharma, Minister of State Ajit Singh Pal, IMEA President Bhupinder Singh, Messe München India CEO Reinhard Pfeiffer, ELCINA Senior Vice President Richard Puthota, and ICEA National President Pankaj Mohindroo.

The summit is being seen as a major platform to showcase technological innovation and strengthen India’s position as a global hub for electronics manufacturing and digital transformation.
