India and Bhutan Officials Hold Talks on Border Fieldwork

New Delhi – Representatives from India and Bhutan convened in New Delhi to discuss fieldwork related to their shared border, as confirmed by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

The discussions focused on collaborative efforts in technology and capacity-building initiatives associated with boundary surveys and related activities. Both sides expressed satisfaction with the work carried out by their respective field survey teams and other key stakeholders. A schedule outlining the next three field seasons was also finalized during the meeting, according to an MEA statement released.

Leading the Indian delegation was Hitesh Kumar S. Makwana, Surveyor General of India, while Bhutan’s team was headed by Dasho Letho T. Tangbi, Secretary of International Boundaries, Royal Government of Bhutan. The MEA noted that the meeting was held in a cordial and cooperative environment, reflecting the tradition of regular consultations in all facets of bilateral cooperation.

This diplomatic engagement follows the visit of Bhutanese Prime Minister Dasho Tshering Tobgay to India from February 20 to 21. During his visit, he participated in the School of Ultimate Leadership (SOUL) conference, launched by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He also held discussions with Prime Minister Modi and other senior Indian officials.

The MEA emphasized that high-level exchanges such as this visit exemplify the strong and longstanding partnership between India and Bhutan. Rooted in mutual trust, shared values, and goodwill at all levels, the relationship between the two nations continues to be a cornerstone of regional cooperation.
