NEW DELHI – In anticipation of India’s 78th Independence Day, the Border Security Force (BSF) has initiated ‘Operation High Alert’ along the India-Pakistan international border. The operation, which began on August 11 and will continue until August 17, is designed to thwart any infiltration attempts or threats leading up to and immediately following the national celebration.
Increased Vigilance and Advanced Technology
According to Yogendra Singh Rathore, DIG of BSF Sector North, the initiative involves deploying additional forces and enhancing vigilance. “To boost the morale of our troops on the border, officers will also be stationed near the fence to maintain strict surveillance,” Rathore stated.

During this high-alert phase, all wings of the BSF will be active, and the number of personnel on the ground will be increased. Troops will be equipped with advanced weaponry and will patrol the border both day and night, using vehicles, camels, and foot patrols.

The BSF will also leverage digital equipment to monitor border villages more effectively. Residents of these villages will be educated on the threat posed by drones to ensure community participation in security efforts.
What is ‘Operation High Alert’?
‘Operation High Alert’ involves a significant increase in surveillance and patrol activities, going beyond routine security measures. It includes intensified “khurra checking,” which involves a thorough search of the area to detect any signs of infiltration. The BSF’s intelligence wing will also be highly active during this period, working in close coordination with other intelligence agencies, local residents, and the police to gather information and ensure a secure environment.
