Chennai: In the 39th match of IPL 2024, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) registered a historic win over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 6 wickets. In this high voltage match played MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, Marcus Stoinis scored a stormy century against Chennai Super Kings. Stoinis played an unbeaten inning of 124 runs in 63 balls and led LSG to a memorable victory.
Earlier, Lucknow won the toss and decided to bowl. Batting first, CSK scored a challenging score of 210 runs for four wickets. For CSK, captain Ruturaj Gaikwad played an unbeaten inning of 108 runs in 60 balls. Apart from this, Shivam Dubey scored a brilliant 66 runs in 27 balls.
Lucknow, while chasing the target of 211 runs given by Chennai Super Kings, did not have a good start. After the early dismissal of Quinton de Kock, Lucknow Super Giants experimented with promoting Marcus Stoinis to number 3 and the experiment was successful. Stoinis did not disappoint the team with his innings and played a brilliant unbeaten century (124).
Stoinis hit 13 fours and 6 sixes in his innings of 63 balls. At the same time, Nicholas Puran also scored 34 runs in 15 balls. Stoinis badly beat Mustafizur Rahman. Actually, in the last over, LSG needed 17 runs to win. Stoinis finished the game 3 balls early.
With this, Lucknow Super Giants also became the first team to win against CSK for the second time while chasing the target of 210+ runs. Earlier in the year 2022 also, Lucknow Super Giants had chased the target of 211 runs against CSK. Stoinis also made many records in this match. Marcus Stoinis’ unbeaten score of 124 against CSK in Chennai is the highest individual score while chasing in the IPL.
Following his side’s six-wicket loss to Lucknow Super Giants, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) head coach Stephen Fleming said that the team is not focusing on finding a quick fix to their problems, but rather a right combination that will contribute during the back-end of the tournament.
