IIT Kanpur Celebrates 11th International Yoga Day with Enthusiasm and Unity

Kanpur : The 11th International Yoga Day was celebrated with great fervour at IIT Kanpur, aligning with this year’s global theme: “Yoga for One Earth, One Health.” The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty members, students, staff, and their families, all coming together for a collective yoga session across the lush campus grounds.

The celebrations commenced with a ceremonial lamp lighting, graced by Prof. Manindra Agrawal, Director of IIT Kanpur, as the Chief Guest. He was joined by senior officials including Prof. Prateek Sen (Dean, Students’ Affairs), Prof. Tajdarul Hasan Syed (Associate Dean, Student Activities), Prof. J. Ramkumar (Dean, Infrastructure & Planning), and Prof. Kumar Vaibhav Srivastava (Dean, Administration).

The institute observed the Common Yoga Protocol, as prescribed by the Government of India, and the event featured ten unique activities under titles such as Yoga Sangam, Yoga Bandhan, Harit Yoga, Yoga Samavesh, and Yoga Unplugged — celebrating not just yoga but also sustainability, unity, and wellness.

During his address, Prof. Manindra Agrawal emphasized the significance of the occasion, saying,

“The celebration of International Yoga Day at IIT Kanpur reflects our deep commitment to holistic health. Yoga is a profound practice that enhances physical energy, mental clarity, and spiritual peace. It helps us connect with ourselves, our environment, and society at large. I urge everyone to make yoga an essential part of their daily lives.”

Prof. Prateek Sen, Dean of Students’ Affairs, remarked,

“International Yoga Day reminds us that yoga is an eternal value for our well-being. At IIT Kanpur, our aim is to inspire students and staff to integrate yoga into their daily routines and benefit from its long-term impact on mental and physical health.”

The yoga session was conducted under the expert guidance of Yoga Guru Dr. S.L. Yadav, whose experience and insights ensured the smooth and impactful execution of the event. Dr. Yadav also explained the benefits of various asanas and breathing exercises, helping participants of all ages engage meaningfully.

By joining millions around the globe in this celebration, IIT Kanpur once again reaffirmed yoga’s role as a unifying force, contributing to national and global wellness while promoting a lifestyle of balance, harmony, and resilience.
