New Delhi: If your money accidentally goes to someone else’s account while making payment through UPI or internet banking, then as per the guidelines issued by RBI, you should immediately lodge a complaint on toll free number 18001201740. Your money will be returned to your account.

Keep in mind that if payment is made to the wrong account number through UPI and net banking, first lodge a complaint on the above number and after that go to the concerned bank and fill the form and inform about it. If the bank hesitates to help or refuses to help, then complain against the above bank on bankingombudsman.rbi.org.in.

It is known that according to the guidelines of the Reserve Bank of India, if the money from a customer’s account accidentally goes to someone else during online payment, then it is the responsibility of the bank to look into the complaint and refund within 48 hours.

Remember, always do not delete the message received on the phone after making payment through UPI and net banking. This message contains the PPBL number, which is needed at the time of complaint. In case of wrong online payment, call the bank and register the PPBL number with all the information and then go to the bank within 3 days and lodge your written complaint there.

In the form given to the bank, make sure to provide the transaction reference number, date, amount and the wrong account to which the money went.
