“Healthy Soil, Better Harvest”: Adani Agri Fresh Launches Soil Testing Campaign for Apple Growers in Himachal Pradesh

Shimla: Apple growers in Himachal Pradesh have been grappling with multiple challenges over the past few years, including changing weather patterns, reduced chilling hours, erratic rainfall, and frequent hailstorms. These factors have not only impacted overall yields but have also affected the quality of apple produce. At such a critical juncture, soil health has emerged as a key factor in supporting sustainable and high-quality apple cultivation.

With this objective, Adani Agri Fresh Limited (AAFL) has launched a comprehensive soil testing campaign for apple growers across Himachal Pradesh, aimed at promoting scientific and balanced farming practices. The campaign focuses on educating farmers about the importance of soil testing before applying fertilizers and how understanding soil nutrient status can significantly improve crop quality and productivity—reinforcing the belief that healthier soil leads to better harvests.

The campaign commenced on January 5 in Sainj and will continue there until January 12, followed by Rohru from January 13 to 18 and Rampur from January 18 to 22. Over the course of the campaign, participation of more than 3,000 to 4,000 apple growers is expected across these regions.

During the initiative, soil testing experts, laboratory technicians, scientists associated with Dr. Y.S. Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni, and plant pathology specialists are engaging directly with farmers. Growers are being informed about nutrient deficiencies in their soil, appropriate fertilizer application, correct pruning practices, and effective methods to maintain long-term soil health. The objective is to help farmers enhance both the yield and quality of apples through informed, data-driven decisions.

Adani Agri Fresh Limited has been working closely with apple growers in Himachal Pradesh at the grassroots level for several years. Beyond consistent procurement of apples during the harvest season, the company has been providing technical guidance to farmers to support sustainable horticulture practices. AAFL had earlier conducted a similar soil testing campaign in November, which received an overwhelmingly positive response from farmers. Many growers reported noticeable improvements in crop quality after modifying fertilizer usage based on soil test results.

The ongoing soil testing campaign by Adani Agri Fresh goes beyond soil analysis alone. It is being viewed as a strong step toward guiding farmers on a long-term path of scientific, sustainable, and resilient apple farming—helping them adapt to climatic challenges while improving productivity and quality in the years to come.
