Health Experts Deliberate on Advancing Emergency Medical Care at SGPGIMS

Lucknow : A distinguished panel of leading emergency and critical care specialists from premier medical institutions gathered in Lucknow on Monday to discuss key advancements in emergency medicine. The occasion marked the successful conclusion of the flagship national academic programme of the Society of Acute Care Trauma and Emergency Medicine (SACTEM), hosted at SGPGIMS.

Experts from AIIMS, PGIMER, SGPGIMS, KGMU, and RMLIMS participated in the high-level roundtable, sharing insights on two crucial pillars of emergency care: safe infusion practices and management of urinary tract infections (UTI) in emergency departments. The deliberations underscored the urgent need for uniform protocols and improved training to enhance patient outcomes during critical situations.

Two-Day CME Focuses on Applied Training

The two-day Continuing Medical Education (CME) workshop, held on December 6 and 7, featured hands-on sessions in infectious diseases, emergency ultrasound, and mechanical ventilation.
Key training modules included:

  • PULSE (Proactive Ultrasound in Life-Saving Emergencies): Designed to strengthen point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) skills among emergency physicians.

  • VENTPRO (Ventilation Proficiency Programme): A structured ventilator training initiative covering ARDS, COPD management, weaning strategies, advanced modes, and interpretation of loops and curves.

The sessions were conducted at the HG Khurana Auditorium Complex of SGPGIMS, with more than 60 national faculty members actively contributing.

Free Training for Government Medical Officers

A major highlight of the event was the free skill-building training offered to medical officers from:

  • Namo Clinics

  • District Hospitals

  • Government Healthcare Institutions

The training included modules on PULSE ultrasound and VENTPRO ventilator management, aimed at strengthening emergency care delivery across Uttar Pradesh.

SGPGIMS Director Prof. R.K. Dhiman, the chief guest, emphasized the indispensable role of emergency physicians during the “golden hour”—the critical window where prompt and skilled intervention can save lives. He also highlighted the significance of the PULSE and VENTPRO programmes in elevating emergency medical preparedness.

Head of the Department of Emergency Medicine, Dr. R.K. Singh, attended as the guest of honour.

The strong academic collaboration of SGPGIMS with faculty from institutions across India added depth and diversity to the discussions.

Strengthening Emergency Care Across Uttar Pradesh
