Lucknow– With Diwali around the corner, the Health and Fire Departments have gone on high alert to ensure public safety during the festival of lights. Hospitals across the state are fully prepared with adequate stocks of medicines, injections, oxygen cylinders, and first-aid supplies. Emergency services at all hospitals will remain operational 24 hours a day, while 108 and 102 ambulance services have also been put on standby to provide immediate assistance in case of accidents or medical emergencies.
Medical Alert Issued; Staff on Duty Round-the-Clock
The Health Department has issued a special medical alert, anticipating an increase in burn injuries and respiratory issues due to firecrackers and air pollution during the celebrations. All doctors and healthcare staff at medical colleges, district hospitals, community health centers, and primary health centers have had their leaves canceled and will remain on 24-hour duty. A dedicated 10-bed burn ward has been set up at the main hospital of the medical college, with doctors scheduled on a rotational basis, according to Principal Dr. Mayank Singh.
Public Advised to Exercise Caution
Authorities have urged citizens to handle firecrackers responsibly, only in open and safe areas, and to supervise children while they set off fireworks. People with respiratory conditions are advised to limit outdoor exposure. District Hospital CMS Dr. Pramod Katiyar warned against using smoky or loud firecrackers, as they can aggravate respiratory, cardiac, and mental health conditions, particularly in children and the elderly.

Fire Department Prepared for Emergencies
The Fire Department is also fully prepared for Diwali, especially for fire hazards caused by fireworks on October 20. District Fire Officer Rajkishore Rai said that multiple fire trucks and emergency units will be stationed across key locations: eight vehicles in Jhansi, two large vehicles and a bike in Mauranipur, two in Garotha, three in Mau, and one in Samther. Teams have been alerted to prevent any untoward incidents. Citizens have been advised to wear fitted clothing, use fireworks in open areas, and keep water, wet cloths, and sand handy for immediate response in case of fire. In any emergency, the Fire Department should be contacted immediately.
This coordinated effort by the Health and Fire Departments aims to ensure a safe and joyful Diwali for all residents.
