Gupta Brothers Establish Dedicated EWS Ward at IIT Kanpur’s Gangwal School of Medical Sciences and Technology

Kanpur: In a significant act of philanthropy rooted in gratitude and legacy, Manoj Gupta and  Neeraj Gupta, co-founders of Opalescent IT Solutions Inc., have contributed generously towards the establishment of an eight-bed ward for Economically Weaker Section (EWS) patients at the upcoming Gangwal School of Medical Sciences and Technology (GSMST), Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur. This contribution is being channelled through the IIT Kanpur Foundation, a U.S.-based non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the institute’s mission of education and research.

This heartfelt initiative not only pays tribute to their father, the late M.C. Gupta, who served as Superintendent at IIT Kanpur from 1961 to 1997, but also underscores the family’s enduring connection to the institute. In recognition of his exemplary service, Gupta was honoured with the Long and Satisfactory Service Award in 1987. The new ward will be named in memory of the donor’s late parents, Rukmani Gupta and  M.C. Gupta – EWS Bay/Ward, further cementing the family’s legacy at IIT Kanpur.

Prof Manindra Agrawal, Director of IIT Kanpur, stated, “The Gangwal School of Medical Sciences and Technology represents our vision to transform healthcare and MedTech innovation in India. Specific contributions like this will help us build an inclusive medical infrastructure and a resilient future healthcare system. On behalf of the institute, I express our deepest gratitude to the Gupta family for their generous gesture, which is rooted in their deep sense of enduring connection to IIT Kanpur!”

Speaking on behalf of the family,  Manoj Gupta remarked, “Our father dedicated his life to IIT Kanpur. This contribution is not just a tribute to his service but also a way for us to give back to the institution that helped shape who we are. Supporting healthcare access for the underprivileged reflects the values our parents instilled in us.”

Opalescent IT Solutions Inc., founded in 2018 by the Gupta brothers, is a U.S.-based company that offers legal consulting, customer acquisition, digital marketing, and financial funding for small and medium-sized businesses. Beyond their corporate success, the founders are passionate about giving back to society, with this philanthropic act exemplifying their long-standing commitment to community welfare and social empowerment.

Prof. Amey Karkare, Dean of Resources and Alumni at IIT Kanpur, expressed the institute’s deep appreciation: “It is incredibly meaningful to see the children of a former employee honouring their roots in such a powerful way. This contribution not only supports our vision for inclusive healthcare but also highlights the enduring values of the IITK community.”

The Gangwal School of Medical Sciences and Technology is a flagship initiative of IIT Kanpur, envisioned as a world-class centre for medical research, innovation, and patient care. The institute is actively engaging with alumni, corporates, and philanthropists to realise this vision.

This contribution marks the first instance of children of a former IIT Kanpur employee making a gift of such scale, creating a truly historic moment for the institution. It reflects the profound and enduring impact of IIT Kanpur—not only on its students but also on the extended families who continue to share in its legacy across generations.

Through this act, the Gupta family reminds us that philanthropy rooted in gratitude can bring about meaningful change. Their vision and humility stand as an inspiration for others to support causes that uplift society, especially in the fields of education and healthcare.
