Lucknow: A dramatic encounter unfolded near the railway crossing at Haniman Chauraha in Vibhutikhand area, where police confronted and apprehended a rape accused trying to escape the city.
The accused, identified as Mohammad Sarju, was named in a case of child rape and had been evading arrest. Several police teams had been actively searching for him. Acting on a tip-off, police reached the spot where Sarju was waiting for a train to flee the city.
Upon being cornered, Sarju opened fire on the police team. In the retaliatory action, police shot him in the leg and took him into custody. The injured accused was immediately taken to a hospital for treatment.
From the scene, police recovered a 315 bore illegal firearm and live cartridges. A forensic team, along with heavy police force, was present at the location to investigate further.
This incident has once again highlighted the swift and decisive action of the Lucknow police in cracking down on heinous crime, ensuring the safety and security of the city’s residents.
