Gulveer Singh Wins Gold, Becomes New Asian Champion in 10,000m

New Delhi: India’s Gulveer Singh made history by clinching the gold medal in the men’s 10,000m race at the 2025 Asian Athletics Championships. He became only the third Indian ever to achieve this feat after Harischandran (1975) and G. Lakshmanan (2017). This was also India’s first gold medal at the ongoing championship.

Gulveer, who holds the national record, led for most of the race and surged ahead in the final lap to defeat Bahrain’s Albert Kibichi Rop with a timing of 28:38.63. The 26-year-old from Sirsa had earlier won bronze in the same event at the 2022 Asian Games and again in 2023 at the Bangkok Championships. He also won gold in the national Federation Cup.

Gulveer has shown consistent growth, even clocking 12:59.77 in the 5000m at the 2025 Boston University Terrier DMR Challenge. His hard work and perseverance have sparked celebration across the country, with fans and athletes alike applauding his achievement.
