LUCKNOW: In a heartwarming gesture just ahead of the Diwali festival, the Government Railway Police (GRP) in Lucknow brought immense joy to hundreds of people by successfully recovering and returning a large cache of lost mobile phones. The police effort has been widely praised for turning lost property into pre-Diwali happiness.
The GRP recovered a total of 350 lost mobile phones, which were traced across various districts of Uttar Pradesh and several other states. The estimated total market value of the recovered devices is approximately ₹4 crore.
Superintendent Personally Hands Over Phones
The initiative reached its peak as Lucknow GRP Superintendent Rohit Mishra personally handed over the recovered mobile phones to their rightful owners.
Expressing his satisfaction, Superintendent Mishra highlighted the police’s motivation:
“The smile on the faces of the people is the biggest reward for the GRP Police.”

Public Expresses Deep Gratitude
The owners, who had lost hope of retrieving their valuable devices, were overwhelmed with emotion upon getting their phones back. Many expressed deep gratitude to the Lucknow GRP, noting the perfect timing of the recovery.
One recipient remarked, “The GRP has returned happiness to us right before Diwali.”
The successful operation not only returned valuable property but also reinforced the public’s trust in the police force, adding a layer of genuine celebration to the upcoming festival of lights.
