Lucknow: A grand Khichdi Bhoj was organised at the Saraswati Temple premises located within the King George’s Medical University (KGMU) campus. The traditional event witnessed enthusiastic participation from a large number of KGMU faculty members, staff, and other distinguished guests. Around 700 people collectively partook in the khichdi prasadam, marking the occasion with a spirit of devotion and togetherness.
Addressing the gathering, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sonia Nityanand said that the festival of khichdi holds deep traditional, religious, and social significance in Indian society, particularly in North India. She emphasised that the khichdi ceremony is not merely a community meal, but a symbol of tradition, faith, simplicity, and social harmony. “It represents positive energy and serves as an auspicious beginning for any noble endeavour,” she added.

Lucknow Mayor Sushma Kharkwal was also scheduled to attend the programme; however, due to urgent travel to Delhi in connection with the election process of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s national president, she could not be present. She conveyed her congratulations to the Vice-Chancellor through a message and extended her best wishes for KGMU’s continued progress and success.

Several eminent personalities graced the occasion, including Kaushal Kishore, former Union Minister and Member of Parliament from Malihabad (Lucknow); Jai Devi, MLA, Malihabad; Yogesh Shukla, MLA, Bakshi Ka Talab; Amresh Kumar, MLA, Mohanlalganj; Ramchandra Pradhan, MLC, Lucknow; and Dr. Neeraj Bora, MLA, North Lucknow.
The event reflected the spirit of unity, cultural heritage, and social bonding, reinforcing KGMU’s commitment to nurturing traditional values alongside academic excellence.
