Grand Celebration of Former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s Birth Centenary

Lucknow: To commemorate the birth centenary of Bharat Ratna and former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, a grand event was organized at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Nagar Nigam Degree College, Surendra Nagar, Lucknow, by the Lucknow Municipal Corporation. The program was divided into two sessions, each reflecting on Atal Ji’s remarkable personality and legacy.

Session One: Inter-College Competitions

The first session featured an inter-college competition centered on Atal Ji’s life and contributions. Students from various institutions, including Lucknow University, DAV PG College, Mumtaz PG College, JN PG College, Kalicharan PG College, BSNV PG College, Navyug Kanya Mahavidyalaya, Karamat Hussain Muslim Girls PG College, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Girls PG College, LPC College, and Amiruddaula Islamia Degree College, participated enthusiastically.

The winners of the competition were:

  • First Place: Siddharth Chaturvedi (Lucknow University)
  • Second Place: Anurag Vishwakarma (DAV PG College, Lucknow)
  • Third Place: Abhishek Choubey (Mumtaz PG College).

Session Two: Poetry Competition and Tributes

The second session began with a prayer to Goddess Saraswati and a welcome song. A poetry competition based on Atal Ji’s poems was the highlight of this session. Eminent guests included Honorable Mayor Mrs. Sushma Kharkwal (Lucknow Municipal Corporation), Special Guest Mr. Arun Kumar Gupta (Additional Municipal Commissioner, Education), and jury members Mr. Pratul Joshi (former Director, Akashvani Almora) and Mr. Shailendra Sharma.

Mayor Sushma Kharkwal shared heartfelt anecdotes about Atal Ji, reflecting on his journey from streets to Parliament. She highlighted his towering personality, his contributions to nation-building, and his unparalleled poetic expressions.

The winners of the poetry competition were:

  • First Prize: Tejaswini Chakravarti (BA, 2nd Year, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose College)
  • Second Prize: Vidushi Mishra (BA, 1st Year, Khun Khun Ji Girls PG College)
  • Third Prize: Varun Shukla (Lucknow Public College).

Tributes to Atal Ji

Shailendra Sharma spoke extensively about Atal Ji’s exceptional administrative skills, literary contributions, and his ability to nurture relationships. He recounted memorable experiences with Atal Ji, emphasizing his unique ability to leave a lasting impression on everyone he met.

The program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Principal Dr. Subhash Chandra Pandey. The event was anchored by Shri Balbhaskar Mishra, with coordination by Dr. Poonam Uttam and Dr. Upendra Kumar from the Hindi Department.

This celebration not only paid tribute to Atal Ji’s legacy but also inspired the young generation to emulate his ideals of dedication, leadership, and humanity.
