Graduation Parade Ceremony Fills Trainees with Pride and Excitement: Dara Singh Chauhan

Lucknow: “Every step taken during the parade fills the body with excitement and pride, symbolizing discipline, dedication, and commitment to duty. You are all fully capable of shouldering the significant responsibilities of the prison department, and I extend my best wishes for your future,” stated Uttar Pradesh’s Prison Minister,  Dara Singh Chauhan. He was addressing the passing out parade ceremony of 40 trainee Deputy Jailers (119th batch) and 128 trainee Jail Warders (72 from Uttar Pradesh and 56 from Uttarakhand) of the 176th batch at Dr. Sampurnanand Prison Training Institute, Lucknow.

During the event, the Minister accepted the Guard of Honour and inspected the parade from the review vehicle. Rajendra Kumar Mishra, a Deputy Jailer from the batch, led the parade as the first Parade Commander, demonstrating exemplary leadership.  Chauhan congratulated all the trainee Deputy Jailers and Jail Warders, applauding their hard work and dedication. He highlighted that Dr. Sampurnanand Prison Training Institute, established in 1940, was the first prison training institute in Asia, providing training not only to Indian personnel but also to officers from Nepal, Tanzania, and Sudan. So far, the institute has trained 1,679 officers and 13,149 Jail Warders who have contributed to prison services.

Addressing the gathering, Director General of Prisons,  P.V. Rama Sastry, congratulated the trainees on their successful completion of training and wished them a bright future. He outlined the intensive training program, which covered Conduct Rules, new Criminal Laws, Gender Sensitization, E-Prison management, Psychology, Criminology, Sociology, and Jail Manual regulations. For the first time, the trainees received special training at the Police Academy in Moradabad for a week, enhancing their practical skills. Additionally, they underwent extensive training on three new criminal laws (BNS, BNSS, BSA) to ensure their proficiency in modern judicial systems.

A significant milestone in this batch is the inclusion of 13 female Deputy Jailers, symbolizing progress in women’s empowerment. The academic qualifications of the trainees were also noteworthy, with 13 holding B.Tech degrees, 2 with M.Tech, 7 with BA, 5 with MA, 11 with B.Sc, and 2 with M.Sc degrees. Ananya Atri was honored as the Best Cadet in the Deputy Jailer category, while Pradeep Singh from Uttarakhand received the Best Cadet award in the Jail Warder category. The event also witnessed enthusiastic participation from the trainees’ families, adding to the celebratory atmosphere.
