Lucknow– The Governor of Uttar Pradesh, Anandiben Patel, visited Vivekananda Hospital and Nursing College in Nirala Nagar, Lucknow, where she paid floral tribute to the statue of Swami Vivekananda and addressed nursing students on the significance of their profession.
Calling nursing “not merely a job, but a medium of service,” the Governor emphasised the vital role nurses play in patient care — administering medicines, understanding patient needs, and communicating them to doctors. She underlined that dedication and a spirit of service are essential qualities in the profession.
Encouraging the students, she reminded them that their parents had sent them with the purpose of serving others. Staying in a hostel, she noted, fosters self-reliance, cleanliness, time management, and discipline — life skills that remain valuable beyond the profession.

Governor Patel stressed that while daughters are often taught more life skills because they move to other households after marriage, it is equally important to impart these skills to sons. She also underlined the importance of personal responsibility and hygiene in hostel life.

Sharing her recent experience from a visit to Belur Math in Kolkata, the headquarters of the Ramakrishna Mission, she spoke of its pure and inspiring atmosphere and the large-scale kitchen that prepares meals for 5,000–10,000 people using steam technology. She reminded students to adopt and follow the best values of Indian culture and traditions “to the letter.”

On the occasion, Swami Muktinathananda Maharaj presented the Governor with a photograph of Swami Vivekananda and a memento in appreciation of her visit.
