Varanasi: Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel inaugurated the “HPV Vaccine Campaign for Life-Saving Protection” during a cervical cancer awareness camp at Kasturba Gandhi Residential Girls’ School in Shivpur, Varanasi. Over the next 15 days, the campaign aims to administer free HPV vaccines to 80,000 girls aged 9 to 14 across schools in the district. The vaccination includes two doses per girl, spaced six months apart.
As part of the event, the Governor also launched the “Sabal Kashi” program and distributed free HPV vaccination certificates to 10 girls.
Governor’s Address:
Highlighting the significance of the campaign, Governor Patel stated that protecting the health of women and girls is a top government priority. She emphasized that the initiative will empower 80,000 girls to grow healthier and stronger, thereby strengthening society. She also shared that HPV vaccination has already been ensured for all girls residing in Raj Bhavan.
The Governor stressed the need for women to prioritize their health, as their well-being forms the foundation of their families. She urged society to end gender discrimination and recognize the immense potential of girls, who bring pride to their families and communities.
The Governor further encouraged doctors and youth to excel in research and praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership in advancing research in India. Referring to the successful development of the COVID-19 vaccine, she emphasized the need for similar efforts to combat other diseases.
She appealed to all sections of society to actively participate in this free vaccination campaign by ensuring that girls in their communities are vaccinated to secure their future. The Governor explained that the HPV vaccine offers protection against nine types of viruses that cause cervical cancer. She noted that the vaccine can also be administered to girls up to 22 years of age, though additional doses would be required.
Drawing from her tenure in Gujarat, Governor Patel shared her experiences of addressing cleft lip and congenital disabilities, emphasizing that empowering daughters can reduce future expenses by up to 50%. She also commended the contributions of officials and organizations working in the fields of healthcare and social service.
