Gorakhpur-Ayodhya Four Lane Revamp: ₹200 Crore Makeover

Soon, the major potholes on the Gorakhpur-Ayodhya four-lane road will be a thing of the past. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will not just patch up the damaged sections but will rebuild the road from the base. The project is set to cost approximately ₹200 crore, with a goal to complete it within a year. The Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the project has already been approved by the NHAI headquarters.

Construction Work to Begin Next Month, Tender Process in Final Stages

There have been large potholes on the Gorakhpur-Lucknow four-lane route, causing significant issues. NHAI plans to start the reconstruction of the road in the first fortnight of next month. The damaged portions of the road will be completely rebuilt, rather than just patched up. The decision has been made to remove the existing base and reconstruct the road from scratch.

₹200 Crore to Be Spent on the Project

A budget of ₹200 crore has been allocated for this project. The repair work for the Gorakhpur-Ayodhya section has been assigned to the Gorakhpur Project Implementation Unit (PIU). The DPR, prepared after a survey by the PIU, has been approved by the NHAI headquarters. The project is expected to be completed within a year, although officials from the Gorakhpur PIU are hopeful that the work will be finished earlier.

People Struggling Due to Potholes

There have been multiple large potholes and broken sections on the Gorakhpur-Ayodhya four-lane road. In some places, the surface layer of the road has completely eroded, and the potholes have become large enough to cause accidents. NHAI has decided to focus on fixing the lower level of the road to resolve the issue permanently.

Repairs were done about five months ago along the Gorakhpur-Lucknow four-lane stretch, passing through Sant Kabir Nagar and Basti, up to Ayodhya. However, due to increased traffic load, the road condition deteriorated again. After surveying the situation, NHAI engineers concluded that the road could only be fixed by addressing the lower levels of the road.

This project will not only transform the Gorakhpur-Ayodhya four-lane road but also provide relief to the millions of travelers using this route.
