Google to Invest $15 Billion in AI Center, Partners with Adani Group to Build AI Hub in Visakhapatnam

New Delhi/Visakhapatnam: Tech giant Google has announced a $15 billion investment over the next five years to establish a major Artificial Intelligence (AI) center in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. The project, in partnership with the Adani Group, will also feature India’s largest AI-focused data center, making it Google’s largest AI hub outside the United States.

The ambitious center will include a gigawatt-scale data center complex, new large-scale energy sources, and an expanded fiber-optic network. Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud, stated at the event, “This will be our largest AI center outside the U.S., and we are proud to invest in India’s AI potential.”

The announcement was made during Google’s event “India AI Shakti” in New Delhi, held ahead of the India-AI Impact Summit 2026. The event was attended by Electronics & IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai shared on social media, “After speaking with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, we shared our plans for the first Google AI center in Visakhapatnam—a historic milestone. The center will combine gigawatt-level computing, a new international sub-sea gateway, and extensive clean energy infrastructure to accelerate AI innovation and growth across India.”

The Adani Group, through its subsidiary AdaniConneX, will jointly develop the AI data center and green energy infrastructure with Google. The center is designed to handle some of India’s most complex AI workloads, supported by clean energy and a robust sub-sea cable network.

Gautam Adani, Chairman of the Adani Group, said, “We are proud to partner with Google on this historic project, which will define the future of India’s digital ecosystem. This is more than infrastructure—it is an investment in a rising nation.”

Thomas Kurian emphasized that the center will unlock India’s AI potential, providing a foundation for growth and enabling businesses, researchers, and creators to innovate at scale.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman highlighted India’s supportive policy environment since 2014, while Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu noted that the planned investment has been increased from $10 billion to $15 billion. IT Minister Nara Lokesh remarked, “Data is the new oil, and the data center is the new refinery.”

The Google-Visakhapatnam AI hub marks a landmark collaboration between global technology leaders and Indian enterprises, expected to significantly advance AI research, digital infrastructure, and clean energy deployment in India.
