Good News for Farmers: 80-Acre Industrial Park Coming Up in Sitapur

Sitapur: In a major boost to industrial development and local agriculture, an 80-acre industrial park is set to be developed on the land of the erstwhile Semri Spinning Mill in Sitapur district. The Uttar Pradesh government has transferred the land to the Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Development Authority (UPSIDC), which has already conducted a survey and is preparing the layout for the proposed park.

The move is expected to bring economic opportunities not only for Sitapur but also for neighboring districts Bahraich and Barabanki, with farmers set to gain significant benefits from agri-based industries planned within the park.

The Semri spinning mill, run by the Uttar Pradesh Cooperative Spinning Mills Federation, was established in 1985. Its yarn once supported Sitapur’s carpet and weaving industry and was even exported to Bangladesh. However, the mill was shut down in 2001 and its machinery sold off, despite several attempts to revive operations over the years.

With the latest decision, the defunct mill premises will now be transformed into a modern industrial hub. According to officials, more than 100 industrial units are likely to be set up in the proposed park, with a strong focus on agri-based industries. “The Semri Industrial Area will host primarily agro-industrial units, generating direct and indirect employment for over 20,000 people. Farmers from Sitapur, Bahraich, and Barabanki will also benefit through better access to markets and raw material demand,” said Sanjay Singh, Deputy Commissioner of the District Industries Center.

Strategically located in Mahmoodabad tehsil, Semri enjoys strong connectivity. The Semri crossroads link Sitapur with Lucknow, Barabanki, and Bahraich, while another route connects to Sadarpur. This connectivity will make transportation of raw materials to the units and movement of finished goods smoother and more cost-effective.

The project is being hailed as a key step in reviving industrial growth in Sitapur and strengthening the region’s economic backbone by combining agriculture with modern industry.
