Lucknow— In a major breakthrough for city law enforcement, the Gomti Nagar Police, in a coordinated effort with the Surveillance and Crime teams of the DCP East Zone, apprehended a notorious chain snatcher involved in a series of thefts and snatching cases across multiple districts.
The arrested individual, Brijesh Tiwari alias Vishnu, has a criminal history spanning Lucknow, Lakhimpur Kheri, and Sitapur, with over half a dozen serious cases of theft and chain snatching registered against him. According to police officials, Brijesh had recently stolen a motorcycle from Kheri district on June 27, along with his accomplice Anubhav Shukla alias Raja, before committing a chain snatching incident in Gomti Nagar and stealing a woman’s earring elsewhere in Lucknow.
The operation, led by Inspector Brijesh Chandra Tiwari of Gomti Nagar Police Station, was executed with a team comprising Sub-Inspectors Gyan Prakash Singh, Amarnath Chaurasia, Rakesh Verma, Head Constables Sandeep Pandey and Amit Kumar, and Constables Akash Yadav, Ankur Chaudhary, Ajay Yadav, and Shivanand.
Upon arrest, the police recovered:

- One gold earring
- A piece of a stolen gold chain
- A stolen motorcycle
- ₹1,250 in cash
DCP East Shashank Singh addressed a press conference on Tuesday to announce the arrest and share details of the case. He was joined by ADCP East Pankaj Kumar Singh and ACP Gomti Nagar Brij Narayan Singh.
Police sources confirmed that efforts are underway to trace the accomplice Anubhav Shukla, who remains at large. The joint operation is being hailed as a testament to the efficient coordination and rapid response of Lucknow Police forces in tackling street crime.
The successful arrest not only solves several pending cases but also reinforces public confidence in the police’s continued efforts to ensure the safety of citizens, particularly women, in public spaces.
