Ghaziabad: The fire that broke out since Sunday evening at Delhi’s Ghazipur landfill site is still bellowing. The poisonous smoke emanating from this fire has spread in the surrounding area, due to which people are having difficulty in breathing. Not only Delhi but also the people of adjacent Noida and Ghaziabad are facing problems due to this poisonous smoke. Now local people have started complaining of difficulty in breathing, burning sensation in the eyes and problem in the throat.
Efforts to control the fire continue
Waste management in Delhi comes under the Municipal Corporation. A senior MCD official said that efforts are being made to control the fire. More than 30 fire engines are deployed to extinguish the fire at the landfill site. Efforts were made to control the fire throughout the night, however till now the fire has not been completely controlled. Fire is burning intermittently in many parts. A cloud of smoke is still rising here.
Having trouble breathing
Due to the massive fire that broke out at the Ghazipur landfill site in Delhi since Sunday evening, the local people living nearby complained of difficulty in breathing. Khoda Colony, Vaishali, Indirapuram areas of Ghaziabad are located around the Ghazipur landfill site. Local people are facing a lot of problems due to the poisonous smoke coming out of this fire.
Local people living in Vaishali area of Ghaziabad said that we are facing this problem since 1990. People living nearby often suffer from diabetes, BP, thyroid and eye irritation. Elderly people and even small children have been facing these problems for many years. School students are also in bad shape due to the smoke coming out of this fire. School going students from nearby areas are also facing problems.
People say that people are experiencing burning sensation in their eyes in all the surrounding areas. People are not able to go out. Be it Delhi government or Central government, no one is paying attention to our problems. The biggest problem is that as the temperature increases, the fire will become more intense.
