Germany Pledges Long-Range Missiles, UK to Deliver 100,000 Drones to Ukraine

LONDON –  Ukraine’s military capabilities are set for a significant boost as key Western allies, Germany and the United Kingdom, announce substantial new aid packages. These commitments come as Ukraine continues its more than two-year conflict with Russia, demonstrating a unified front against Russian aggression.

Just last week, Ukrainian forces reportedly conducted strikes up to 5,000 kilometers deep inside Russian territory, underscoring the evolving nature of the conflict.

UK to Bolster Drone Warfare with 100,000 Drones

The United Kingdom has declared its intention to supply Ukraine with a staggering 100,000 drones by April 2026. This massive commitment, announced by the British government, signals a clear stance in support of Ukraine. “Drones have changed the course of the war and can provide significant assistance to Ukraine,” a British statement read. “Therefore, we have decided to increase drone supply tenfold.”

This move follows earlier successes by Ukraine in utilizing drone warfare to inflict substantial damage on Russia, even as conventional artillery and ground combat have often resulted in setbacks. The effectiveness of drones has sparked discussions about the future of warfare, making Britain’s commitment a strong indicator of its continued and open support for Ukraine. Historically, Britain has maintained an adversarial stance towards Russia.

The British government stated that this drone package is part of a broader £4.5 billion military aid commitment to Ukraine. Defence Minister John Healey is expected to formally announce the details. Thousands of drones are anticipated to be supplied to Ukraine by the end of this year, with the 100,000-drone target set for April next year. In addition to drones, large quantities of ammunition are also being prepared for delivery.

Germany to Fund Long-Range Missile Production

Preceding the UK’s announcement, Germany confirmed that it would provide £5 billion in aid to Ukraine for the production of long-range missiles. Germany explicitly stated that Ukraine requires long-range missiles to counter Russia, and it would provide the necessary funding. This assistance is unequivocally categorized as military aid.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz had previously made this promise to Ukraine. A statement from the German Ministry of Defence affirmed that “our aid is for a war-torn country that needs weapons on a large scale. This aid will enable it to increase production.” This commitment highlights Germany’s dedication to bolstering Ukraine’s defensive capabilities against Russia.

These latest pledges from two major European powers underscore a sustained and evolving strategy to equip Ukraine with the advanced weaponry needed to defend its sovereignty and push back against Russian forces.
