Lucknow: The Gautampalli Police Station under the Central Zone successfully arrested a habitual offender and recovered a high-end stolen bicycle following an intensive investigation involving technical surveillance and CCTV analysis.
According to police officials, the case pertains to the theft of a Trek Ranger bicycle that was parked in the porch of a residence on Vikramaditya Marg. The complainant, Arun Kumar Dubey, a resident of 16A Vikramaditya Marg, lodged an FIR on February 14, 2026, after the bicycle was stolen around midnight on February 13. A case (Crime No. 15/26) was registered under Section 305 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against an unknown accused.
Acting on the complaint, the Gautampalli police team, along with the surveillance unit, examined nearly 150 CCTV footage clips and utilized technical tracking methods to identify the suspect. The stolen bicycle, valued at approximately ₹1.5 lakh, was recovered from the possession of Suraj (30), son of late Bhagwati Prasad, a resident of Dhannupurwa under Kotwali City Police Station in Hardoi district.
Following his arrest, additional charges under Section 317(2) of the BNS were invoked, and the accused was taken into police custody under Sections 305/317(2) BNS. He is being produced before the competent court for further legal proceedings.
Police records reveal that the accused has a criminal history, including multiple cases under the Arms Act (1959) registered in 2020, 2021, and 2023 at Kotwali City Police Station, Hardoi, as well as a theft-related case under IPC Sections 379/411/413 registered at Ashiyana Police Station, Lucknow, in 2023.
The arrest operation was carried out by Sub-Inspector Ramesh Chandra Pandey (Investigating Officer), Sub-Inspector Abhinendra Singh (In-charge, Surveillance Team), Sub-Inspector Shailesh Kumar Singh, Sub-Inspector Indrajeet Singh, Head Constable Ashish Mishra (Surveillance Team), Head Constable Durgesh Kumar, and Constable Priyanshu Yadav.
Police officials stated that strict action will continue against criminal elements to ensure the safety and security of citizens in the area.
