Free Admission of Over 1.26 Lakh Underprivileged Children in Private Schools in UP

Lucknow — The Yogi Adityanath-led government in Uttar Pradesh has taken a significant step towards making education a powerful tool for social transformation. Under the Right to Education (RTE) Act, the state government has successfully facilitated the free admission of 1,26,293 underprivileged children in private schools, amounting to 68% of the 1,85,675 allocated seats. This marks a major achievement in the state’s commitment to inclusive and accessible education for all.

Following the principle of “Education is Everyone’s Right”, the initiative reflects the government’s resolve to bridge the educational gap for economically and socially weaker sections. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has frequently emphasized that “even a poor child should have the opportunity to become a doctor, engineer, or civil servant.” Through this initiative, that vision is turning into reality.

Transparent, Four-Phase Admission Process

The Basic Education Department conducted a transparent, four-phase admission process that received 3,34,953 applications, of which 2,52,269 were approved, translating to a 75% approval rate. Out of these, 1,85,675 students were allotted schools, and over 1.26 lakh children have already been enrolled, ensuring they are brought into the mainstream education system.

Minister of Basic Education Speaks

Commenting on the success of the initiative, UP Basic Education Minister Sandeep Singh stated:
“This is not just about enrollment figures—it is about igniting the flame of hope in the dreams of poor families. Under the guidance of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, we are laying the foundation of social justice in the education sector. Our goal is to ensure that every child, regardless of their socio-economic background, has access to quality education.”

Top Performing Districts

Several districts have shown exemplary implementation, thanks to the proactive involvement of local administration and community support. The top-performing districts include:

  • Basti (94%)

  • Lalitpur and Firozabad (93%)

  • Balrampur and Pratapgarh (92%)

  • Shrawasti and Hardoi (91%)

  • Etah, Deoria, and Jaunpur (88%)

These achievements underline the strong groundwork being laid at the grassroots level to ensure that education becomes not just a policy, but a lived reality for thousands.

A Step Towards Self-Reliance

The RTE implementation in Uttar Pradesh is being hailed not just as a welfare move, but as a foundational effort toward self-reliance, empowerment, and a brighter future for the next generation. By ensuring access to private schooling for children from disadvantaged backgrounds, the state is sowing seeds for a more equitable and educated society.

The Yogi government’s focus on educational equity continues to be a model for other states looking to strengthen the implementation of RTE and promote social mobility through education.
