Four Members of Inter-District Gang Arrested for Tractor Fraud; Five Vehicles Recovered

Gonda: In a major breakthrough, the Nawabganj police in Gonda have busted an inter-district gang accused of cheating farmers by falsely promising to deploy their tractors for work with the Indian Railways. Four members of the gang have been arrested and five tractors have been recovered from their possession.

The action was carried out under the directions of Superintendent of Police Vineet Jaiswal as part of an ongoing campaign against criminals. The operation was conducted under the supervision of Additional Superintendent of Police (West) Radheshyam Rai and led by Circle Officer Tarabganj Umeshwar Prabhat Singh along with the Nawabganj police team.

Farmers Lured with Promise of Railway Work

The case came to light after a complaint was filed on June 30, 2025, by Anish Kumar, a resident of Tulsipur Majha village. According to the complaint, the accused approached him claiming they could arrange work for his tractor with the railways on a monthly rent of ₹25,000.

To gain trust, the accused initially paid three months’ advance rent amounting to ₹75,000. However, after taking the tractor, they stopped paying rent and never returned the vehicle.

During the investigation, it was revealed that the gang had similarly taken tractors from other farmers, including Chhotu Yadav, Hridayram, and Prabhavati of Amethi. When the victims visited the accused on June 6, 2025, to demand rent and the return of their tractors, they were allegedly threatened and driven away.

Tractors Sold in Other Districts

Police interrogation revealed that the gang operated in an organised manner. One member would convince farmers to rent out tractors by offering advance payments, while other members transported the tractors to different districts where they were sold to unsuspecting buyers. The money obtained from these sales was later shared among the gang members.

Based on the information provided by the accused, the police recovered five tractors from different locations.

Accused from Multiple Districts

The arrested individuals have been identified as Kuldeep Singh from Pratapgarh, Subhash Chand Yadav from Mainpuri, Ramji Sharma from Mathura, and Sandeep Yadav from Barabanki. According to police officials, the gang had an extensive network spanning several districts and may have been involved in similar fraud cases earlier.

Police records indicate that Subhash Chand Yadav and Kuldeep Singh already have multiple criminal cases registered against them, including charges related to fraud and cheating.

The Nawabganj police are currently interrogating the accused and continuing the investigation to determine how many farmers have been cheated by the gang so far. Further legal proceedings are underway.
