Flood Ravages 25 Localities and 32 Villages in Varanasi, Thousands Displaced, Life in Chaos

Varanasi |  A severe flood crisis has gripped Varanasi, with the Ganga River breaching the danger mark of 72 metres. The rising waters have engulfed 25 city localities and 32 villages, wreaking havoc on daily life and displacing thousands of residents. The flood has also caused Varuna River to swell dangerously, further intensifying the crisis.

Several homes, shops, schools, and even hospitals have been inundated. Floodwaters have reached the premises of the BHU Trauma Centre, turning roads into makeshift canals. Officials, ministers, and MLAs have stepped in to supervise relief and rescue operations, ensuring stranded families are relocated to safer areas and provided with food, water, and medical care.

Over 5,000 Families Displaced

More than 5,000 families have been forced to leave their homes. The district administration has successfully relocated over 600 families to 20 operational flood relief camps, while many others have taken shelter in rented homes or with relatives. Over 1,500 farmers have lost their standing crops, dealing a blow to rural livelihoods.

The administration has arranged 20 relief shelters where food, medicine, and fodder for livestock are being provided. Local tehsil teams are working round-the-clock to supply essential aid and support to those affected.

The floodwaters have impacted urban neighborhoods such as:
Salarpur, Saraiya, Nakkhi Ghat, Daniyalpur, Koniya, Dhelwaria, Pul Kohna, Sarnath, Rasoolgarh, Nagwa, Hukulganj, Assi, Pushkar Talab, Sikarol, Paigambarpur, Tapovan, Rupnpur, Sarai Mohan, Kapildhara, Baghwa Nala, Mouja Hall, Domri, Sujabad, Dashashwamedh, Rajabazar, and adjacent areas.

Affected Rural Regions

Flood has inundated villages including:
Rampur Dhab, Ramchandipur, Mustafabad, Chhitouna, Jalhupur, Lutha, Amba, Shivdasa, Gobarha, Mokalpur, Hariharpur, Rajapur, Tathepur, Babhanpura, Kukudha, Barthara Kala, Dhobhi, Srishti, Ramla, Sehwar, Chandpur, Pipri, Dudhuwa, Kaithi, Tekuri, Barthara Khurd, Lakshmisenpur, Dharhara, Ramna, Tekari, Narottampur, Tarapur, and more.

Relief and Rescue Operations in Full Swing

To tackle the situation, the district administration has deployed:

  • 50 rescue boats and 8 NDRF-powered boats
  • Over 20,000 food packets including fruits, milk, bread, and biscuits
  • 454 relief kits for displaced families
  • 1,765 quintals of fodder for livestock
  • Medicines distributed to over 300 people in camps

The local government is on high alert, and officials urge residents in low-lying areas to evacuate immediately and cooperate with rescue teams. Continuous monitoring of water levels is underway, with hopes pinned on stabilising river conditions in the coming days.
